Tuesday Teaching question, and one I am sitting with personally as a faculty member:

As we march closer to AGI, what job am I actually preparing my students for?

Here is the honest version of my answer:

I do not know what specific job will exist for them in 2030. The career I tell them about today might not exist by the time they graduate. The career they will eventually have might not have a name yet. The technical skills I am teaching them this semester have a shorter shelf life than my office plant.

That should bother any of us with a stake in higher education, whether we teach, learn, or write tuition checks.

But here is the reframe I have been working with. There is a job I AM preparing them for. It does not have a name yet.

It is the job that requires somebody to read a complex situation, ask a sharper question than the AI in the room, and figure out what to do when the instructions run out.

I broke this down in detail in today's Daily Seed. And I built a four-phase activity set in the SeedStacking Resources space so you can run the question on yourself. Whether you are faculty, a working professional, or a parent watching your kid pick a major, the exercise works.

Three questions for the community:

  1. If you teach, what is the one thing you have actually changed about how you teach in the last twelve months?
  2. If you are a working professional, what meta-skill have you been quietly compounding for years that you do not list on your resume?
  3. If you are a parent or a student, what is the question about college you wish someone would answer honestly?

Drop your answer below. I read every one.

If you want to actually DO something with this question instead of just sit with it, the four-phase activity set is live in SeedStacking Resources.

It takes you from a 5-minute audit to a public artifact you can share. Built specifically for this topic. Do all four in 90 minutes, or just the Seed in 10. Anything you complete counts.
