The Course Record Starter
Stop paying the blank page tax. Build a five-minute profile of what you teach and how you sound, then turn it into a course build you can reuse every term.
Phase 1: Find your blank page tax
Think back to the last course, unit, or program you built from scratch. List the tasks that ate the most time. Then mark each one as Teaching or Busywork. Teaching is judgment only you can bring. Busywork is anything you have typed some version of before.
Phase 2: Draft your Course Record
This is the five-minute profile every tool reads so it drafts in your voice instead of a stranger’s. Fill in each line plainly. You only do this once, and you reuse it all term.
- Subject and level you teach
- Two or three policies that matter most to you
- Your program or learning outcomes, in one line each
- Three phrases that sound like you in front of a room
Phase 3: Run one real task through it
Pick one actual build task: a syllabus section, a week of discussion prompts, a quiz, a rubric. Paste your Course Record into any AI tool, ask for that task in your voice, and compare it to a version written from a cold blank prompt. Note the difference in how much editing each one needs.
Phase 4: Map your Course Creation Pathway
Sequence your whole build into a reusable pathway, first spark to finished course. Each step hands off to the next, and every step reads the same Course Record. Write it as a numbered list a colleague could follow. This is your shareable deliverable.
- Order your steps: outline, then lessons, then assessments, then rubrics, plus anything your build needs
- Note what each step needs from the step before it
- When it is clean, post it in the community so others can build their own
