The Curriculum Byline Audit
Somebody wrote the free AI curriculum on your campus. This session takes one unit and four questions, and you finish holding a completed audit plus a learning outcome rewritten in your own words. About twenty minutes. Nothing is sent anywhere. Everything stays in this browser tab until you copy it out.

Pick one unit
Not the program. Not the policy. One unit, module, workshop, or professional development session with an AI component that is already circulating on your campus.
Use the name it actually goes by in the email that forwarded it to you.
Course and level, or the audience if it is professional development. Example: required first year seminar, all sections.
Who brought it, and what was the reason given. One sentence.

Question one and two
Find the actual byline, not the logo on the cover. Funder, author and publisher are three separate lines and they are often three different organizations. Write down all three, and next to each one write what that organization sells. If a line is blank because you cannot find it, write cannot find. That is a finding.
Go to the assignment, not the overview. Name every account, app or platform a student has to log into to complete the work. If the answer is one company, say which.

Question three
Copy the stated learning outcome below, then delete every brand and tool name from it and retype what remains.
Answer in one sentence. If a real skill is still standing, you have a unit with a vendor in it, which can be perfectly fine. If the outcome dissolved, you have a product tutorial with an outcome written on top.

Question four, the part people skip
Use the vocabulary your program already uses in its own documents. Aim it at what a graduate should be able to do in five years, not at what a student clicks this term. One sentence, no tool names allowed.
Adopt, adopt with changes, or decline. Then one sentence of why, written so a colleague who has never seen the unit can follow it.
That is one unit.
Look at what you just did. You read a byline, traced a required product, stripped a learning outcome down to what actually survives, and rewrote it in your program’s own language. It took about twenty minutes and it produced a document you can hand to a committee.
Now count the courses in your catalog with an AI component in them. A department running thirty courses is looking at a term of evenings to do this properly, which in practice means it gets done for the one course that came up in a meeting and never for the other nine. The audit is not hard. It is repetitive, and repetitive is what dies in a semester.
That is the gap the Outline Builder was built to close. It is the first stage of the Course Creation Pathway, and it builds a course outline from your own Course Record, the stored description of your course, your outcomes, your policies and your voice. The outcome on the page starts as yours instead of somebody else’s, which is the whole argument of this worksheet applied at the speed a term actually moves. See the Outline Builder inside the Faculty Toolkit.
