The Faculty AI Deploy Kit

Four stackable reps that move you from watching AI happen to grading it well. One phase at a time.

Your students already use AI. Employers already grade them on it. This kit closes the gap in the one place you control: your course. Each phase takes a single sitting, builds on the last, and ends with something real. You do not need prior AI experience. Start at Seed and stack up.

How to use it: Do one phase this week. Post your Harvest deliverable in the SeedStacking Resources space when you get there. That is how the reps compound.

Seed · Getting Started 5 to 15 minutes

Do the rep yourself, once

Pick the very next assignment you plan to give. Open a free AI tool and complete that assignment as a student would. Do not judge it yet. Just feel where it helps, where it fabricates, and where it flattens your intent. You cannot teach a performance skill you have never personally performed.

Produces

Three quick notes: one thing the tool did well, one thing it got wrong, and one moment you had to correct it. Those three notes become your teaching examples.

Sprout · Building Skills 15 to 20 minutes

Rewrite one assignment so AI is visible, not hidden

Take that same assignment and redesign it so using AI is required and out in the open, instead of banned and driven underground. Ask students to submit three things: the prompt they used, the raw output they got, and a short note on what they changed and why. You just turned a cheating worry into an observable skill.

Produces

One redesigned assignment prompt with a three part submission requirement: prompt, output, revision note.

Grow · Going Deeper 20 to 30 minutes

Grade the thinking, not the typing

Build a short rubric that scores how well a student worked with the AI, not how polished the output looks. Four criteria carry it: how sharply they questioned the tool, how well they caught its errors, how they verified the facts, and how much of their own judgment shows in the final piece. That is exactly the competency an employer screens for.

Produces

A four criterion AI competency rubric you can attach to the redesigned assignment: Questioning, Error Catching, Verification, Judgment.

Harvest · Advanced Practice 30 to 45 minutes

Turn it into something students can show an employer

Have each student keep one documented, AI assisted piece of work they could actually put in front of a hiring manager: the task, their prompts, their corrections, and the final result. Then write one short paragraph for your syllabus naming why this artifact matters in hiring. Now the competency has your name and your course attached to it.

Produces (shareable)

An interview ready AI artifact spec plus your one paragraph employer framing. Post that paragraph in the SeedStacking Resources space so other faculty can borrow it and adapt it.

You are not behind. The ground moved for everyone.

Stack these four reps with other faculty who are doing the same work. That is what the Harvest Kernel Learning Community is for. Bring your redesigned assignment and compare notes.
