The Pause Debate Kit
Build your own honest read on whether a global AI pause is still possible, now that AI has started helping build AI.
Why this kit exists
On June 4, 2026, Anthropic published “When AI Builds Itself” and asked the world to keep the option to pause frontier AI. The headlines flattened it into fear or hype. Both are lazy. This four-phase kit walks you from the raw source to your own defensible position in under 90 minutes total. You do not need to be technical. You need to be willing to think.
Read the Room
5 to 15 minutes
Skip the hot takes. Go to the primary source for ten minutes.
- Open Anthropic’s report “When AI Builds Itself” (search the title, or use the Harvest Kernel breakdown).
- Write one sentence: the single most alarming line you find.
- Write one sentence: the single most reassuring line you find.
You produced: Your own two-line summary, built from the source instead of a headline. That is the whole “I did it” moment.
Steelman Both Sides
15 to 20 minutes
Use any free AI assistant. Paste this prompt, then judge the output against your two lines from Seed.
- PROMPT: You are a debate coach. In under 150 words each, write the strongest honest case FOR a globally coordinated pause on frontier AI, and the strongest honest case AGAINST one. No straw men. End by naming the single biggest weakness in each case.
- Then decide: which side does Anthropic’s report actually support more, and which side does your gut want to be true? Notice if those two answers disagree.
You produced: A balanced brief plus a first honest gut-check on your own bias.
The Verifiability Test
20 to 30 minutes
Anthropic’s pause is conditional: it only works if it is verifiable. A pause you cannot verify is just a press release.
- List the three things the world would have to monitor to trust that everyone actually paused. Start here: large-scale compute, model weights, and top research talent.
- Rate each one from 1 to 5 on how realistically it could be tracked across the United States and China today.
- Add up your scores. Anything under 9 means you just found the real crack in the plan.
You produced: A one-page verifiability scorecard, the same crux real AI policy people are fighting over right now.
Your 90-Second Take
30 to 45 minutes
Time to plant a flag. Build a 90-second position and share it with the community.
- Answer one question in writing or on camera: Is a conditional global pause genuinely possible, or already a fantasy?
- Back it with evidence you generated: your steelman brief from Sprout and your verifiability score from Grow.
- Post it in the SeedStacking Resources space and drop the link under today’s Daily Discussion thread.
You produced: A shareable, evidence-backed take that becomes community content and sharpens everyone who reads it. That is SeedStacking. Knowledge you can hand to someone else.
