Put a Good Teaching Assistant to Work
Four hands-on reps that show you what a great assistant actually does, from your first unstuck moment to teaching it forward.
Seed to Harvest · 4 ActivitiesA great teacher inspires the room. A great assistant makes sure every person in it actually gets there. These four activities let you feel that difference for yourself. Start where you are. Each one builds on the last.
1. Seed · The One Question Test
Get unstuck on one thing, right now
Pick one concept, task, or tool you have been quietly stuck on. Not the big scary one. The small nagging one.
- Open any AI assistant and describe exactly where you get lost, in plain words.
- Ask it to explain the sticking point three different ways: once simply, once with an example, once as a step by step.
- Stop the moment one version clicks. That click is the whole point.
2. Sprout · The Patient Tutor Loop
Let the assistant quiz you, not just answer you
Answers are easy to get. Real learning comes from being checked. This rep flips the assistant from answer machine to patient tutor.
- Pick something you half know and want to actually own. A concept, a process, a definition.
- Tell the assistant: quiz me one question at a time on this, and after each answer tell me what I got right and what I missed.
- Get one wrong on purpose. Watch how it corrects without judgment and re-explains. That patience is the trait that scales.
- Jot down the two things you kept missing. That short list is your real study guide.
3. Grow · Build Your Office-Hours Stand-In
Turn a one-off chat into a standing assistant
A good assistant is not a single answer. It is availability you can count on. Here you build one that holds your standards and shows up every time.
- Choose one thing you are responsible for helping others with: a lesson, an onboarding, a study topic, a client question you answer often.
- Write a reusable instruction for the assistant. Include who it is helping, the tone to use, what a good answer looks like, and what it should never do.
- Test it with three real questions someone would actually ask. Tighten the instruction until the answers match how you would answer.
- Save it. You just built an office-hours stand-in that works at two in the morning.
4. Harvest · Teach It Forward
Deploy it for someone real, then show your work
The value of a good assistant is proven when it helps someone else get there. This rep turns your build into something the whole community learns from.
- Put your Grow assistant in front of one real person: a student, a colleague, a family member, a community member.
- Watch where it helped and where it fell short. Refine the instruction based on what actually happened.
- Write a short before and after: what they were stuck on, what the assistant did, what changed.
- Post it in the SeedStacking Resources space so the next member can start from your work instead of scratch.
