The Address Test
A one policy rewrite. You will finish this page holding one AI policy sentence that does not expire the next time a vendor ships something.
Everything here happens in your browser. Nothing is saved, nothing is sent, and there is no account. When you are done, press the copy button at the bottom and paste your work somewhere you will find it again. If you close this tab first, it is gone.
Name the sentence you actually have
Open one syllabus. Find the paragraph about AI. Most of them are one sentence doing all the work.
Four places the AI already is
Read your sentence against each one. Write covered or not covered. Be honest rather than generous. A sentence that names a website does not cover a voice mode inside a document, and pretending otherwise is how a policy becomes decorative.
Rewrite it once, to name the behavior
An address expires. A behavior does not. Write the sentence again so that it would still be true if every product on earth renamed itself tomorrow. Three tests for the sentence you write: a student can tell whether they broke it, you can tell whether they broke it, and neither of you has to know what the software is called.
Say it out loud in week one
A policy nobody reads is a policy nobody follows. The sentence lives in the syllabus. The version that actually works is the one you say in class, in your own voice, in under fifteen seconds.
That is one sentence, in one syllabus, for one section. Look at your teaching load for this term and count the syllabi with an AI paragraph in them. Each one was written at a different time, by a different version of you, against a different set of products. They do not agree with each other, and the first person to notice will be a student who read two of them.
The manual method above is the right way to do the first one. Do it by hand. You need to feel where your own line actually sits before anything can carry it for you. After that, the job stops being thinking and starts being repetition, and repetition is the part worth handing off.
The Syllabus Generator in the Harvest Kernel Faculty Toolkit builds student centered, accessibility first syllabi in 19 languages, and it writes from your Course Record, so the sentence you just wrote becomes the sentence every section gets. One rewrite, carried.
And do the next one by hand anyway. The second time is where you find out whether your line was actually a line.
